Bearded Tits are mainly brown, with a long tail, despite the name, only the female has a beard. The male having a moustache! Made of two black pointed tears coming from either side of his mouth. They are occupants of reed-beds, often seen flying rapidly across the top of the reed-bed. They are sociable and noisy, their 'ping' calls often being the first clue to their presence. Bearded Tits are not hardy birds and many can be lost in hard winters. You will only find Bearded Tits in Reed-beds. Their diet consists of mainly Invertebrates in summer, and seeds in winter, our Finch Food mix is an ideal way of feeding Bearded Tits, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Coal Tits, Greenfinches, Goldfinches and Bullfinches. Finch Food should be fed through a Niger seed feeder, and we recommend use of a feeder tray to catch the fallen seeds.
